HIDDEN DANGERS OF ADDING APPS ON FACEBOOK!

If you could use this tape to mark all dangerous plases on Facebook, Facebook would colour yellow!

Dear friends!

I use only one single Facebook app CAUSES do you want to know why? Because:

Each time you add an application on your profile, your privacy setting resets. So it Un- checks the box, so that FB can share your information with a 3rd party.
The only way to disable it is to remove the application.
If you have been receiving lots of spam mail or excessive notifications lately, this might be the reason.

This comes from FB safety precautions:

Always follow these important safety tips when using Facebook:
• Adjust your privacy settings to match your level of comfort, and review them often.

♥ IN THE NEWS (earlier this year): Facebook users have been victimized by a 2 separate rogue applications - several variants actually - that appears to have been designed to exploit interest in the controversy surrounding Facebook's terms of service.
Put simply, these programmes harvested information from countless FB users.

In announcing the changes rules, FB CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, "Our main goal at Facebook is to help make the world more open and transparent."

♥ Anyone can create an app to be used on FB, embed keyloggers or viruses or countless other ways to steal your information.

♥ Take a long hard look at all the apps you have installed. Use the drop box and go through ALL the categories. Delete the ones you don’t use.

♥ In case your not convinced, heres something that the BBC did to exploit the gaping hole in Apps on FB :

♥ Worried one of those quizzes or games might be maliciously harvesting your data? You were right to worry. The BBC had the same idea, so they decided to write a program to do just that. And it worked. Not only did it steal the data of FB users who installed the application, it also victimized all of their "friends."

♥ From the BBC: We wrote an evil data mining application called Miner, which, if we wanted, could masquerade as a game, a test, or a joke of the day.
It took us less than three hours. But whatever it looks like, in the background, it is collecting personal details, and those of the users' friends, and e-mailing them out of Facebook, to our inbox.

When you add an application, unless you say otherwise, it is given access to most of the information in your profile. That includes information you have on your friends even if they think they have tight security settings.

♥ This info comes straight from FB terms of Service:

Note that this is only about one third of the full statement that can be found at:

http://www.facebook.com/help/search.php?hq=TOS&ref=hq#/terms.php?ref=pf

WE TRY TO KEEP FACEBOOK UP, BUG-FREE, AND SAFE, BUT YOU USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. WE ARE PROVIDING FACEBOOK "AS IS" WITHOUT ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT FACEBOOK WILL BE SAFE OR SECURE. FACEBOOK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS OR CONTENT OF THIRD PARTIES, AND YOU RELEASE US, OUR DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS FROM ANY CLAIMS AND DAMAGES, KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, ARISING OUT OF OR IN ANY WAY CONNECTED WITH ANY CLAIM.

♥ The FAQ and Privacy Policy on FB are actually in direct contradiction with each other.

The FAQ states that \We don't distribute your user information to third parties.

The Privacy Policy, on the other hand, states that \we may share your information with third
parties, including responsible companies with which we have a relationship."

It then lists reasons that they may share information, including legal requests and \facilitating their business.

Be careful when you use Facebook and think about your friends when you use applications!

Its not only your information that they are harvesting but also the information about your friends!

Stay safe and have a very nice weekend!

Namasté
